Baby Sensory

Poynton Sports Club hosts Baby Sensory East Cheshire's Thursday classes across three back-to-back slots — 09:30–10:30, 10:50–11:50, and 12:10–13:10 — giving families real flexibility when choosing a time that fits their baby's day. Places run term time only, so it is worth checking ahead for holiday breaks.

The East Cheshire franchise was founded in 2013 by Becky Campbell, who describes the work as her life's passion and says she is still amazed each week by what each baby can do. Rosie Spedding also teaches across the area; the franchise's own description of her notes a warm and welcoming nature well suited to the classes.

The programme covers a wide range of activities within each hour: creative play, massage, tummy time, movement, sensory signing, textures, scents, and a mix of original and traditional songs and rhymes chosen to support early speech and language. Sessions are structured around a baby's natural play-rest-play cycle, so quieter moments are built in — feeding or cuddling during class is always welcome. Across the full programme there are 40 core lesson plans alongside 28 seasonal and special event plans, which means sessions shift from week to week. Instruments have been checked to ensure they are not too loud for young ears, and the sensory area is arranged to match the distance at which a baby actually focuses — practical thought rather than decoration.

The programme divides into two developmental stages, birth to six months and seven to thirteen months, so activities are pitched at what a baby can realistically engage with at any given point. For newborns in particular, the Hello Baby strand offers a calmer introduction, covering newborn observation, comfort techniques, and baby massage. Every session closes by mimicking the sounds of the womb to help babies settle.
