Baby Sensory

Baby Sensory Tameside holds its Denton sessions at Carmel Community Church on Seymour Street every Wednesday, with a morning slot at 9:30am and an afternoon slot at 1:30pm — so if one fills or the timing clashes with a nap, there's a realistic second option. Classes run for ages from birth to 13 months and are led by Sarah Graham. The summer term runs from 11 May to 23 June, with themed sessions this block that include Rainforest, Baby Frog, and Sensory Fun.

Each session is built around a baby's natural play-rest-play cycle, which gives the hour a rhythm rather than a relentless accumulation of stimulation. You can expect a mix of light, movement, and sound — the visual area is set up to match the distance at which babies actually focus, and the instruments have been measured for decibel level rather than assumed to be safe. Sensory signing runs through the sessions, giving babies a means of communicating before speech develops. There's also massage, tummy time, and textures to handle, alongside songs and rhymes: a combination of original music composed by Dr Lin Day and traditional favourites.

Every session closes by mimicking the sounds of the womb to settle babies down. Newborns from birth to 3 months can also join the Hello Baby strand, which runs alongside the main programme and covers how to observe your newborn's cues, comfort approaches for colic, and gentle touch techniques including massage. At any point during a session, you are welcome to feed or cuddle your baby.
