Baby Sensory

Baby Sensory at Westwood Business Centre runs three days a week, with Catherine leading sessions as part of the Glasgow North franchise. Mondays offer three slots — 10am, 11:30am, and 1pm — Wednesdays carry four at 10am, 11:30am, 1pm, and 2:30pm, and Tuesdays run at 11:30am. The venue is inside The Circle on Aberdalgie Road in Easterhouse. There is an extensive car park with a pram ramp, and a picnic space outside for families who want to stay and chat once the session is over.

The programme is for ages from birth to 13 months, split into two developmental stages: birth to six months, and seven to thirteen months. Sessions are structured around a baby's natural play-rest-play cycle, so there is no expectation that a tired baby will hold focus the whole way through; feeding or cuddling during class is actively welcomed. A typical session weaves together creative play, tummy time, movement, massage, textured objects, scent exploration, and music — including original songs composed by the programme's founder, Dr Lin Day, such as 'Say Hello to the Sun' and 'Wave Goodbye'. Instruments are checked for decibel level before use, and the sensory display area is set up at the precise focal distance a young baby can actually see clearly. Every session closes by mimicking womb sounds to help babies settle.

Each class includes a Bonding Time section, Expert Tips from the practitioner, and an Exploratory Play Area. Sensory signing activities run through the programme to give babies and parents a shared vocabulary from very early on.

For newborns from birth to 12 weeks, the Hello Baby sub-programme runs alongside the main classes. It covers newborn observation, colic and comfort workshops — including learning to distinguish five distinct cries — and loving touch techniques such as baby massage, reflexology, and yoga. Both programmes are delivered by practitioners trained under Dr Lin Day's curriculum. The Glasgow North franchise holds a Gold Award from the Children's Activities Association.
