Baby Sensory

Baby Sensory at The Old School in Cuckfield is part of the Crawley Region franchise, led by Jo Urquhart — a trained teacher who spent twelve years delivering PE in a secondary school before having three children of her own and setting up the region in April 2017. She is joined by team members Katie and Beckie. The Tuesday 11 am class is for ages from birth to 13 months.

A session follows the same structured lesson plan used across every Baby Sensory class, built around a baby's natural play-rest-play cycle. Activities move through creative play, tummy time, massage, movement, and sensory exploration — textures, scents, visual displays arranged at the distance babies actually see clearly, and music kept within checked volume levels. Original songs composed by programme founder Dr Lin Day, including 'Say Hello to the Sun', sit alongside traditional rhymes and sensory signing, all aimed at early communication. Each class also includes Bonding Time, Expert Tips, and an Exploratory Play Area. Sessions close by mimicking the sounds of the womb to help babies wind down.

Term bookings run in eight-week blocks; the Summer 2025 block was priced at £95.92. If you would rather try a single session first, drop-in spaces are released on Friday afternoons at £12.49. The programme draws on 40 core lesson plans plus seasonal specials — Crawley Region themes have included Rock & Roll, Magic Box, and Jungle Jitters — so the content varies meaningfully across the year. One practical note: siblings cannot be accommodated in class, so the session is for the enrolled baby only.
