Baby Sensory

Thursday mornings at Fradley Youth & Community Centre bring together babies from birth to 7 months for an hour of Baby Sensory — the structured, multi-sensory programme designed by Dr Lin Day (PhD) and grounded in early-years development research. The session runs 11:15–12:15 and is led by Vicky Woodings, who has been running Baby Sensory classes in the Lichfield area since 2012. Vicky came to the programme through attending classes with her own daughter before training as a practitioner. Her background in Learning and Development — teaching French and German, and designing training courses for a building society — gives her a particular grounding in how adults absorb and apply new information alongside their babies.

Every session follows a detailed lesson plan that moves through the full range of a baby's senses: what they touch, see, hear, smell and feel. A signature song opens each class, then activities work through creative play, tummy time, movement, visual stimulation, textures and music. Sensory signing runs through the session, giving parents gestures they can use at home between classes. Each session closes with sounds that mimic the womb, settling babies before the class ends — a consistent close that draws on the programme's developmental design.

Classes run term-time, booked in blocks at £8 per session (£58 per term). A Saturday Father's Day session was held at this venue, priced at £10 for a baby and up to two adults. Classes also run throughout the school summer holidays, with availability communicated via waitlists. If you have a very young baby under three months, the Hello Baby Massage course is available separately: a seven-week programme costing £66.50, including all props, handouts and a sensory pack.
