Baby Sensory

Vanya runs Baby Sensory at Christ Church on the High Road in North Finchley, covering babies from birth right up to 13 months. Sessions are divided by age so each class is pitched at the right developmental stage: newborns and younger babies (0–6 months) have their own slots, separate from the 6–12 month group. On Wednesdays the younger class starts at 10:20 and the older group at 11:30; Thursdays run the older group at 11:00 and the younger at 12:10. The current term is six weeks, running from the week of 16 June through to the week of 21 July.

Every session follows a detailed lesson plan that works across all five senses — what babies touch, see, hear, smell and feel. A signature song opens each class, and from there the 40 minutes weaves together creative play, tummy time, movement, simple massage, visual development activities, textures, scents and songs — both original Baby Sensory compositions and traditional rhymes. Instrument volumes are measured to keep them within a safe range for young ears, and the room is arranged to suit the distance at which babies actually focus. Each session also includes sensory signing — a way of building communication long before words arrive — and ends with womb-like sounds to settle babies before you head off. You are welcome to feed or cuddle your baby at any point.

Getting to Christ Church is easy whether you drive or take the bus. The 263 bus stops immediately outside on High Road. If you drive, there is a free car park on site — you must register your vehicle at the terminal inside the hall on arrival. Additional pay-by-phone parking is available on Christchurch Avenue if you need it. The High Road location puts cafés, supermarkets and shops within a short walk, handy if you want to make a morning of it.
