Baby Sensory

Baby Sensory at the WOW Centre in Whatton runs four days a week — Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays (10:00–11:00), and Fridays (13:00–14:00) — with monthly weekend sessions on top of that. The venue was purpose-built for these classes: soft flooring underfoot, coloured sensory lighting overhead, air-conditioning, and a car park large enough to make the whole outing feel manageable. It sits just outside Bingham, easily reached from the A52, at Riverbank Business Park on Old Grantham Road.

Elaine, owner and class leader of Baby Sensory Grantham, Melton & Nottingham East, has been running these sessions for eight years and was recognised as Nottingham's Most Loved Activity Leader for Babies. Steph, who brings eleven years of experience as a senior nursery nurse in a baby unit, also leads sessions here. Every class opens with the signature Baby Sensory song and works through a structured lesson plan designed to engage all five senses: creative play, massage, tummy time, movement, visual development, textures, scents, and music. Sensory signing runs throughout, giving parents practical ways to communicate with their baby from the earliest weeks. At the close, the room quiets as womb sounds are used to gently settle babies before you leave.

Terms bring rotating weekly themes — past blocks have included Creative Play, Sparkles, Jelly Party, and Hola Barcelona — so the content shifts from one block to the next. The programme was created by Dr Lin Day (PhD, M.Phil), who drew on more than forty years of working with parents and children to build lesson plans designed to be repeated at home. Parents are welcome to feed or cuddle their baby at any point, so the session bends around your baby rather than the other way round.

Babies from birth to 13 months are welcome. For newborns under three months, the Hello Baby programme — a separate offering focused on reading baby cues, understanding cries, and learning massage and touch techniques — gives a more targeted introduction to those first weeks.
