About this class
Perform's 4-7s classes at Holy Trinity Parish Church sit on Upper Brook Street, right in central Winchester. Four weekly slots give families real flexibility: two Saturday morning options (9:30am–11am and 11:15am–12:45pm, each ninety minutes) and two Thursday afternoon sessions (4pm–5pm and 5:05pm–6:05pm, each an hour). The current term runs from 11 April to 18 July — with no Thursday session on 28 May — and the classes are run by Producer Sam alongside teachers Kira on Thursdays and Tom on Saturdays.
This summer's theme is Mermaids & Pirates. Children sail aboard the Jammy Dodger on a quest for the Sacred Coconut, meeting a Seasick Pirate, a singing parrot called Rita Conchita, and a mermaid on a mission along the way. The theme runs through every part of the hour-long Thursday session and the ninety-minute Saturday class alike, which Perform divides into three distinct sections.
Move & Feel opens things up with dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring exercises, building coordination, balance and posture through music and movement. Listen, Speak & Sing follows, using specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps to sharpen communication and concentration. The final section, Create & Imagine, is where children step into characters, tell stories and improvise scenes — developing imagination and the confidence to speak aloud. Each week has a different focus within the theme, so the sessions stay fresh across the block.
Class sizes are capped at 22 children, with two Perform staff present throughout. Parents don't sit in during weekly sessions — children focus better without them — but you're kept closely informed. After every class, the Producer sends an email detailing what the group worked on that week. Personalised Feedback Forms arrive regularly, covering each section in detail; every one is read and signed by Perform's Principal, Lucy Quick, who founded the organisation 25 years ago.

Common questions
Can we try a session before committing?
Yes. Every child is entitled to one free trial session. Book it in advance — online or by phone — and at the time of booking the trial must be scheduled within the next two weeks of term-time. Before your child attends, you'll need to complete and sign a registration form covering contact, identification and health details, so the team can take responsibility for your child during the session.
What does my child need to wear?
Children must purchase and wear the relevant Perform T-shirt to every booked session. Perform reserves the right to turn a child away without a refund if the T-shirt is not worn, so it's worth having it ready before the first proper class.
What happens at the end of term?
Three times a year — at half-term and at the end of each term — parents and family are invited in. Half-term Open Workshops let you see what the group has been working on. End-of-term Presentations are a proper show: dancing, acting and singing together to mark what the children have achieved.
What if we miss a session?
Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block under any circumstances. If you'd like to arrange a make-up at another class instead, call Perform before 11am on the morning of the day you'd like your child to attend the make-up — not the day of the missed session. Your child must still have at least one untaken session remaining at this Winchester school at that point.
How are classes structured?
Every 4-7s session has three sections. Move & Feel covers dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired exercises, working on coordination, balance and posture. Listen, Speak & Sing uses specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps to build communication and confidence. Create & Imagine rounds things off with character work, storytelling and role-play improvisation. Each week has a different focus, and the whole curriculum is built around what Perform call The 4 Cs: Confidence, Communication, Concentration and Coordination.
Is there anything on during the summer holidays?
A Peter Pan holiday course runs at this venue from Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August, 10am–3pm each day, led by Sam and Laura. Holiday courses end with a mini-musical performance — costumes and props included — for parents to watch.
