About this class

Perform's weekly classes at Holy Trinity Parish Church sit on Upper Brook Street in the centre of Winchester. Three sessions run back-to-back every Thursday evening — 4:00–5:00 PM, 5:05–6:05 PM, and 6:10–7:10 PM — all led by Sam and Kira. The 6:10 PM slot is the 7–12s class; the earlier two are for 4–7s. On Saturdays, Sam and Tom lead sessions at 9:30–11:00 AM, 11:15 AM–12:45 PM, and 2:00–3:30 PM, with the afternoon slot taking the 7–12s group. Area Partner Sophie visits the Saturday sessions regularly.

Every class is capped at 22 children and always has two Perform staff members present — a deliberate constraint rather than an accident of scheduling. The curriculum is structured around what Perform calls the 4 Cs: Confidence, Concentration, Communication and Coordination, woven into three distinct sections each week. Younger children work through movement and coordination games, specially composed songs and raps, then storytelling and role-play. The 7–12s group moves through drama games and improvisation, group movement and dance, and speech and singing — with vocal projection, physicality and character communication as recurring threads across the term.

The current summer term runs from 11th April to 18th July, with no Thursday session on 28th May. The 4–7s theme this term is Mermaids & Pirates; the 7–12s group are working through The Dream, Perform's take on A Midsummer Night's Dream. Because Perform uses a rolling curriculum, children can join at any point without waiting for the beginning of a term.

Over the summer holidays, a Peter Pan holiday course runs Monday 3rd to Friday 7th August, 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the same venue, led by Sam and Laura. Parents receive a weekly email from the Producer outlining that week's focus, plus a personalised written Feedback Form signed by Principal Lucy Quick.

Common questions

Can we try a session before signing up?

Yes — every child is entitled to a free trial class. Book through the Perform website, via the Producer, or by phone, and see how your child takes to it before committing to a block.

How are classes booked and paid for?

Classes are purchased in blocks of ten or twenty consecutive sessions. You can also renew to the end of term or pay monthly by Direct Debit. New customers who join the Perform mailing list receive £30 off their first block of ten. A bursary scheme is available and Perform accepts childcare vouchers — call the office for details on both.

Which days and times run at Holy Trinity?

Three Thursday evening sessions: 4:00–5:00 PM, 5:05–6:05 PM (both for 4–7s), and 6:10–7:10 PM (7–12s), all led by Sam and Kira. On Saturdays, Sam and Tom run sessions at 9:30–11:00 AM, 11:15 AM–12:45 PM, and 2:00–3:30 PM (7–12s).

What actually happens in a session?

Every session moves through three sections. For 4–7s: movement and coordination work including dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired exercises; speech and singing through specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps; then character explorations, storytelling and role-play. For 7–12s: drama games, focus work, vocal projection and improvisation; group movement and dance; speech and singing with an emphasis on articulation, projection and basic musical reading. The week's focus shifts each session, and the current themes are Mermaids & Pirates for the 4–7s and The Dream for the 7–12s.

What if we miss a session?

Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block. A make-up system allows your child to attend a session at another Perform venue, subject to availability, provided they are still enrolled.

What if we need to cancel?

Perform does not offer refunds, but sessions can be cancelled with three days' notice. The resulting credit transfers to your account for use on other Perform products. If your child restarts after a cancellation, a minimum of ten consecutive classes must be purchased.
