About this class

Perform has been running weekly sessions at Aldersbrook Community Centre since January 2023. The Wednesday 4–7s class runs 3:50pm to 4:50pm, with Producer Jamie and Teacher Marisol leading the group. This term the story is Mermaids & Pirates: children sail aboard the Jammy Dodger on a quest for the Sacred Coconut, meeting the Seasick Pirate, singing parrot Rita Conchita and a mermaid on a mission along the way. The current term runs from 15th April to 15th July, with no session on 27th May.

Each hour-long session divides into three sections. It opens with Move & Feel — dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring exercises that build coordination, balance and core stability. The middle section, Listen, Speak & Sing, brings in specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps designed to boost confidence, communication and concentration. The final third, Create & Imagine, is where children take on characters, follow storytelling arcs and try their hand at role-play improvisation. Every activity is built around Perform's four core areas: Confidence, Communication, Concentration and Coordination.

Class size is capped at 22 children, and two staff members are present throughout. Parents drop off and collect — children benefit most from the session without a parent in the room — but families are invited to half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations three times a year where they can see what has been built over the term. After each Wednesday session the Producer sends an email summarising that week's focus, and personalised Feedback Forms are issued regularly, each one read and signed by Perform's founder and principal, Lucy Quick.

Common questions

Can we try a session before committing?

Yes. Every child is entitled to one free trial session. You must book in advance — by phone or online — and it needs to be scheduled within the next two school weeks. Before attending, you will be asked to complete and sign a registration form covering contact, identification and health details.

What does my child need to wear?

The relevant Perform T-shirt must be purchased and worn to every session. Perform reserves the right to refuse admission without refund if a child arrives without it, so it is worth arranging that before the first paid session.

How are sessions booked and paid for?

Sessions are sold in blocks of 10 consecutive weekly sessions (a 20-session block is also available). Full payment is due by the end of the first session in a block. Options include monthly Direct Debit, renewing to the end of term at a slightly higher per-class rate, and childcare vouchers. A bursary scheme is available for those who need it. New customers can get £30 off a first block of 10 by joining the mailing list. Refunds are not offered for weekly workshop sessions.

What if my child misses a Wednesday?

Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block. You can arrange a make-up at another Perform class, provided you notify Perform by telephone by 11:00am on the day you would like your child to attend, and your child still has at least one untaken session remaining at Aldersbrook.

What about automatic renewal?

Around three weeks before the final session in a block, Perform will email to confirm your child has been automatically renewed for another 10 sessions. You have 14 days from that notification to cancel if you do not want to continue.

Is there a show at the end of term?

Three times a year, families are invited to half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations featuring dancing, acting and singing. This summer Perform is also staging a West End show — Mermaids & Pirates — and tickets are available to book separately.
