About this class

Perform has been running weekly drama workshops at Andover Leisure Centre since January 2022. The 4-7s class meets on Mondays from 4 to 5pm, and the current term runs from 13 April to 13 July 2026, with no sessions on Monday 4 May or Monday 25 May.

This term's theme is Mermaids & Pirates. Children sail aboard the good ship Jammy Dodger, meet the notorious Seasick Pirate, the singing parrot Rita Conchita and a mermaid on a mission — all hunting for the Sacred Coconut. The theme runs through every song, game and movement exercise across the term, giving each session its own place in a longer story rather than feeling like a standalone activity.

Teacher Katherine leads the class, with Luna producing the sessions and Area Partner Sam dropping in regularly to support the team. Classes are capped at 22 children with two Perform staff members present throughout.

Each hour divides into three sections. Move & Feel opens with dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring exercises, building coordination, balance and core stability while helping children connect movement with emotion. Listen, Speak & Sing follows: specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps that develop verbal communication, listening skills and confidence. The session closes with Create & Imagine, where character explorations, storytelling and role-play improvisations bring the Mermaids & Pirates world to life.

All three sections are structured around Perform's four core areas — Confidence, Communication, Concentration and Coordination — woven into activities rather than taught as separate subjects. After every session, parents receive a weekly email from the Producer explaining what the class covered. Personalised Feedback Forms, written by the Producer and signed by Principal Lucy Quick, follow at regular intervals across the term. The Producer is also available to answer questions or discuss a child's progress at any point.

Common questions

Can my child try the class before committing?

Yes. Every child is entitled to one free trial session. Book it in advance — online or by phoning the Perform office — and it must be scheduled within the next two school-term weeks. Before attending, you will need to complete and sign a registration form covering contact, identification and health details.

What does my child need to wear?

Children must purchase and wear the relevant Perform T-shirt to every booked session. Perform reserves the right to refuse admission without a refund if the T-shirt is not worn.

What if we miss a Monday?

Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block under any circumstances. You can, however, arrange a make-up session at another Perform class: call the office by 11am on the day you'd like your child to attend, and your child must have at least one untaken session remaining at the Andover Leisure Centre class at the time.

Are there performances parents can come and watch?

Three times a year, parents and family are invited to Half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations, where children perform a show with dancing, acting and singing. During the weekly sessions children attend independently — Perform's experience is that children settle more quickly and get more from the class without parents present.

How are classes booked and paid for?

Classes run in blocks of 10 consecutive weekly sessions; a 20-session block is also available. Payment options include paying the full block cost by the end of the first session, spreading it via monthly Direct Debit, or renewing to the end of term at a slightly higher per-class rate. Childcare vouchers are accepted, and a bursary scheme is available for eligible families. New customers can receive £30 off a first block of 10 by joining the Perform mailing list. Refunds are not offered for weekly sessions. If you need to cancel, you must notify the Perform office by telephone — speaking to an operator — at least three working days before the first session in the block.

What is the auto-renewal policy?

Around three weeks before your child's final session, Perform will email to confirm automatic renewal for another 10 sessions. You have 14 days from that notification to cancel the renewed sessions if you do not want to continue.
