Baby Sensory

Tuesday classes at Whitton Baptist Church bring together babies from birth to 13 months for an hour of Baby Sensory — a programme founded by Dr Lin Day, whose 40-plus years spanning nursing, special education, and early childhood development shaped every lesson plan. The Whitton sessions are run by Sarah, who trained as a Baby Sensory Class Leader in April 2021 and took over the Isleworth, Whitton & Twickenham franchise in January 2022. She also leads sessions in Isleworth and Twickenham.

Each session lasts an hour and divides into three distinct parts — sensory, a play break, and sensory again — mirroring the natural rhythm of how babies this age engage and then need a moment to reset. Within that structure, you can expect a mix of creative play, tummy time, baby massage, movement, and textured objects, alongside songs and rhymes designed to lay early foundations for speech and language. The signing activities woven through sessions give even very young babies a way to communicate before words arrive. Instruments used in class are measured for decibel levels to stay within safe hearing ranges for small ears, and visual displays are positioned to match the distance at which a young baby actually focuses.

For parents of newborns aged 0–3 months, the Hello Baby sub-programme offers a distinct starting point, covering how to read your baby's cues, making sense of different cries, and building confidence through touch and massage. If your baby is a little older and ready for more variety, the main programme runs across 40 core lesson plans plus seasonal and special-event sessions, so no two weeks are identical. There is a small car park round the back of the venue, and — as with all Baby Sensory classes — you are welcome to feed or cuddle your baby at any point during the session.
