Baby Sensory

Thursday at Heatham House runs two back-to-back sessions: Older Babies (11:30–12:30, ages 5–13 months) and Younger Babies (13:00–14:00, ages 0–7 months). Both are term-time only — the current Summer term runs from 1st June to 10th July, and the Autumn term begins 14th September through to 18th December. A Monday Younger Babies session (10:00–11:00) is also held at Heatham House for families who can't make Thursdays.

Classes here are run by Sarah, who trained as a Baby Sensory Class Leader in April 2021 and took over the Isleworth, Twickenham and Whitton franchise in January 2022. Kate Solomons joined the team in 2022 and also delivers sessions across the area.

Every session follows a detailed lesson plan developed by Dr Lin Day, the programme's founder, covering what your baby touches, sees, hears, smells and feels. You can expect creative play, massage, tummy time, movement activities, textured objects, scents and music, alongside original and traditional songs chosen to support early speech and language. Sensory signing runs through the sessions as well, giving you practical ways to start communicating with your baby before words arrive. The room is arranged to sit within the visual range of young babies, and instrument volumes are measured so nothing is startlingly loud. Each session opens with a signature song and closes by mimicking womb sounds to settle babies before you head home.

Parents are welcome to feed or cuddle their baby at any point in the session — there is no expectation of fixed attention. The activities are designed to be repeated at home, so you leave with something useful beyond the hour itself.
