Baby Sensory

Three Thursday slots run at Elmcroft Community Centre throughout the term: a mixed ages session (0–13 months) from 09:45 to 10:45, an older babies session (5–13 months) from 11:10 to 12:10, and a birth-to-7-months session from 12:35 to 13:35. The range of groupings means you can pick a time that suits your baby's stage rather than squeezing into whichever slot is left. The centre sits at 570 London Road — pull in at the traffic lights for the Sainsbury's supermarket — and has its own car park on site, with up to three hours of free overflow parking at Sainsbury's if you need it.

Classes here are led by Suzie Franck, who has held the London's Most Loved Activity Leader award for three years in succession. Every session opens with a signature song and then works through a detailed lesson plan covering what your baby touches, sees, hears, smells and feels. Activities draw from creative play, massage, tummy time, movement, visual development, textures, scents and music — each one chosen to stimulate the senses and move development forward. The sensory area is arranged to match the distance at which young babies see objects clearly, and instrument volumes are kept within measured limits so nothing comes as a shock.

Sensory signing threads through the session alongside a mix of original and traditional songs and rhymes to build early speech and language. Each class closes with sounds that mimic the womb, giving babies a calm landing after all that stimulation. You're welcome to feed or cuddle your baby at any point — no need to put them down. The activities are designed to be easily repeated at home during the week, so what happens in the session doesn't stay in the session.
