About this class
St Michael's Church Hall on Grenfell Road has been a Perform venue since October 2010. Both age bands are on Fridays: the 4-7s at 4:00pm, the 7-12s at 5:20pm. Producer Claire leads sessions alongside teacher Katherine; every class has two Perform staff present and is capped at 22 children.
Each 4-7s hour moves through three distinct sections. It opens with Move & Feel — dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring exercises that build coordination, balance and core stability. The group then shifts into Listen, Speak & Sing, where specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps give children a reason to project their voices and concentrate at the same time. The final section, Create & Imagine, draws on character explorations, storytelling and role-playing improvisations. Every week has a different focus, so there is always something new to tackle.
This summer term the theme for the 4-7s is Mermaids & Pirates. Children set sail on the good ship the Jammy Dodger, meet the Seasick Pirate, a singing parrot called Rita Conchita and a mermaid on a mission — all on a quest to find the Sacred Coconut. The current term runs from 17 April to 17 July, with no session on Friday 29 May.
Parents do not sit in during weekly classes — children benefit most without parents present — but families are invited to half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations three times a year. After every class the Producer sends a weekly email detailing that week's focus, and personalised Feedback Forms are issued regularly, each one read and signed by Principal Lucy Quick.

Common questions
How do I try the class before committing?
Every child gets one free trial session. Book in advance — by phone or online — and at the time of booking the trial must be scheduled to fall within the next two weeks of term-time. Before your child attends you will need to complete and sign a registration form covering contact, identification and health details.
Which age band should my child join?
The 4-7s class takes children from 3 years 10 months up to just under 8. The 7-12s class takes children from 6 years 10 months up to just under 13. If your child is between 6 years 10 months and 8 years old, either class may suit — the Producer can help you decide. In mixed-age classes, younger children are stretched by the group while older children develop confidence through influencing activities.
What does my child need to wear?
The Perform T-shirt for their class must be purchased and worn to every session. Perform can refuse admission without refund if a child arrives without it.
What happens at the end of term?
Three times a year families are invited to half-term Open Workshops, where you can see what the class has been working on, and to end-of-term Presentations — a short show featuring dancing, acting and singing. If your child attends a holiday course, those finish with a mini-musical performance complete with costumes and props.
What if we miss a session?
Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block under any circumstances. However, if you notify Perform by telephone before 11:00am on the day you want the make-up to happen, and your child still has at least one untaken session remaining at this school, you can arrange for them to attend a class at another Perform venue.
How are sessions structured, and how long is a block?
Classes are booked in blocks of 10 consecutive weekly sessions (a 20-session block is also available), with full payment due by the end of the first session. The 4-7s hour covers three sections: Move & Feel (dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring), Listen, Speak & Sing (specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps), and Create & Imagine (character explorations, storytelling and role-play). After every class the Producer emails a summary of that week's focus, and personalised Feedback Forms are issued regularly — each one read and signed by Principal Lucy Quick.
Are there payment options?
Payment options include a full block payment, monthly Direct Debit, renewal to end of term, and childcare vouchers. A bursary scheme is also available. New customers can receive £30 off their first block of 10 classes by signing up to the mailing list. Refunds are not offered for weekly workshop sessions.
