Perform Drama, Dance & Singing Classes

Perform has been running at St George's Church Hall on Albermarle Road since January 2006 — one of its longer-established Saturday venues. Two sessions run each week: 9:30am–11:00am and 11:15am–12:45pm, taught by Peter and produced by Jessalyn, with Area Partner Jade visiting regularly. The current summer term runs until 18th July.

Each 90-minute class weaves together drama, dance and singing, structured around four core aims: Confidence, Concentration, Communication and Coordination. For the 4–7s, that means Move & Feel (coordination games, balance work and yoga-inspired mirroring), Listen, Speak & Sing (specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps), and Create & Imagine (character explorations, storytelling and role-play). This summer, the 4–7s are setting sail in Mermaids & Pirates, while the 7–12s are working on The Dream — Perform's take on A Midsummer Night's Dream. Older children develop vocal projection, physicality and accents alongside group movement; small-group singing means most get a solo or featured moment.

Classes are capped at 22 children with two Perform staff in the room at all times. There is no fixed entry point — Perform runs a rolling curriculum, so children can join whenever a place is available rather than waiting for term to start. After each session Jessalyn sends a weekly email covering that week's focus, and every child receives a personalised written Feedback Form signed by Principal Lucy Quick. At half-term, family and friends are invited to Open Workshops; at the end of each term, they can attend a Presentation to see what the children have been working on.
