About this class
Perform has been running weekly classes at Holy Trinity Church Centre in Sheen Park since April 2003 — a Wednesday afternoon fixture for Richmond families for over two decades. The 4-7s session runs from 4pm to 5pm and the 7-12s from 5:05pm to 6:05pm, with the current summer term running from 15th April to 15th July (no class on Wednesday 28th May).
The 4-7s summer theme is Mermaids & Pirates. Children set sail on the good ship Jammy Dodger on a swashbuckling quest to find the Sacred Coconut, meeting the Seasick Pirate, singing parrot Rita Conchita and a mermaid on a mission along the way. Older children in the 7-12s are working on The Dream — Perform's take on Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, featuring Oberon, Titania, footballers, popstars and celebrities.
Each hour-long session is divided into three sections, each targeting a different set of skills. For the 4-7s it opens with Move & Feel: dances, rapid-reaction games and yoga-inspired mirroring exercises that build physical coordination, balance and core stability. The middle section, Listen, Speak & Sing, uses specially composed songs, tongue-twisters and raps to work on verbal communication and concentration. The session closes with Create & Imagine, where character explorations, storytelling and role-playing improvisations develop imagination and speaking skills. For 7-12s the equivalent sections are Dance & Movement, Speaking & Singing, and Drama & Improvisation — progressing to choreographed routines, vocal projection and detailed character work. Everything is built around Perform's four core areas: Confidence, Communication, Concentration and Coordination.
The class is led by Producer Joshua and Teacher Georgia, with Area Partner Gemma making regular visits. Class sizes are capped at 22 children with two staff members present throughout. Weekly sessions are for children only — parents are invited in for half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations three times a year, where families see dancing, acting and singing from the whole class. After each session, Joshua sends parents a weekly email covering what was covered that week and the skills explored.

Good to know
Common questions
Can we try before committing?
Yes. Every child gets one free trial session, booked in advance either online or by phone. At the time of booking, the trial must be scheduled to take place within the next two weeks of term-time. Before attending, you'll need to complete and sign a registration form covering contact, identification and health details.
What does my child need to wear?
The Perform T-shirt for their class must be purchased and worn to every session. Perform reserves the right to refuse admission without refund if a child arrives without it.
How are classes booked and paid for?
Classes are booked in blocks of 10 consecutive weekly sessions, with full payment due by the end of the first session. Payment options include monthly Direct Debit, renewing to the end of term, childcare vouchers and a bursary scheme. New customers can get £30 off their first block of 10 classes by joining the Perform mailing list. Note that refunds are not offered for weekly workshop sessions.
What happens if we miss a session?
Missed sessions cannot be added to the end of a block under any circumstances. You can arrange a make-up session at another Perform class — call Perform before 11am on the day you'd like your child to attend, and they must still have at least one untaken session remaining at Holy Trinity.
What if we need to cancel altogether?
Cancellation of a block requires at least three working days' notice given directly to the Perform office by telephone. With three or more working days' notice, Perform retains £50 per child on account. With less than three working days' notice, the pro-rata cost of untaken sessions is deducted from any amount paid.
Is there a show at the end of term?
Three times a year, parents and family are invited to half-term Open Workshops and end-of-term Presentations — a show combining dancing, acting and singing. This summer Perform is also staging a West End show of Mermaids & Pirates, with tickets available to book separately.
Who are the staff and how are they vetted?
Producers are usually working actors, selected through a lengthy audition covering singing, dance, acting and enthusiasm. All staff go through verbal and written reference checks and a full DBS check. Training includes a basic teacher module, advanced Producer training covering Risk Assessments and Health and Safety, plus termly refresher training and evaluations. Perform has an Ofsted listing. Every child's personalised Feedback Form — written by their Producer and covering progress across all three parts of the class — is read and signed by Principal Lucy Quick.
